FOMO Poetry
FOMO (acronimo di Fear of missing out, letteralmente: paura di essere tagliati fuori) indica una forma di ansia sociale caratterizzata dal desiderio di rimanere continuamente in contatto con le attività delle altre persone e dalla paura di esserne esclusi.
FOMOPoetry consiste in una serie di elaborati artistici che si ispirano alle pratiche utilizzate in Italia dal Gruppo 70 nella prima metà degli anni Sessanta.
La prima parte è composta da 10 immagini stampate su adesivo in formato 13x18cm.
La tecnica utilizzata è il collage digitale e i formati corrispondono a quelli di vari devices. Il linguaggio utilizzato proviene dal gergo di Internet e i materiali impiegati provengono essenzialmente da website e social media: niente è nuovo o creato da zero.
La seconda parte è composta da 5 video di breve durata che simulano le Instagram Stories. Questi video senza audio mostrano diverse frasi di canzoni che trattano dei social, inseriti nella cornice di uno smartphone.
FOMO Poetry pone l’attenzione su alcuni problemi: in primo luogo, la dipendenza da Internet e l’illusione di compagnia che ci trasmette, la paura di essere tagliati fuori, l'ansia, la depressione e la solitudine; in secondo luogo, l’importanza che gli utenti conferiscono ai numeri e alla visibilità e agli influencer; infine, la convinzione di poter avere tutto e subito, e l'illusione dell’autenticità.
Questo progetto è parte della mia Tesi di Diploma Accademico di II livello, all'Accademia di Belle Arti di Carrara.
FOMO Poetry
Fomo (that means Fear of missing out) is a form of social anxiety characterized by a desire to stay continually connected with what others are doing. It is also defined as a fear of regret, which may lead to a compulsive concern that one might miss an opportunity for social interaction, a novel experience, a profitable investment, or other satisfying events.
FOMOPoetry is a project consisting in some artistic works inspired by techniques used in Italy by Gruppo 70 in the early 1960s.
The first part is made of 10 images printed in 13x18cm format. The technique used is collage and the format of the images corresponds to smartphone or computer screenshots.
The language used is based on Internet slang and materials come from websites and social media, nothing is new or created from scratch.
The second part is made of 5 digital short videos that simulate Instagram stories (24 hours photos or videos in an Instagram profile). The silent videos show lyrics from songs about Internet and social media (framed into the screen of a smartphone).
FOMOPoetry focuses on some key problems: firstly Internet addiction and the illusion idea of company it generates, fear or missing out, anxiety, depression and solitude; secondly the importance users attach to numbers, views and Influencers; finally the belief that people can have everything at once and the illusion of authenticity.
This project is part of my dissertation for the Second Level Degree at the Academy of fine arts of Carrara.
